YHS set to offer Trunk or Treat event

ELKINS — With the goal of providing a safe atmosphere for families to enjoy trick-or-treating activities, Youth Health Service invites people in the community to take part in its annual Trunk or Treat event.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, the Youth Health Service Home Ties Strengthening Families Center will offer young trick-or-treaters a one hour trunk-or-treat event at YHS in Elkins.

“The reason why the center and Youth Health does events like this is to provide a safe, friendly atmosphere,” Jennifer “JJ” Johnson, Strengthening Families Center family service coordinator, said. “This is a free event that families can bring their kids to and they can feel safe about them being here and enjoy the event.”

Last year the center saw approximately 200 children dressed in creative costumes come to the event and enjoy interactive games and activities.

“We have about 13-14 vehicles that are going to be here – from YHS staff to different agencies and organizations from across the area,” Johnson said.

Area youth are invited to attend Friday’s event and satisfy their sweet tooth with goodies handed out by agencies that participate.

Because the event has been widely successful since its creation three years ago, Johnson said she hopes to see the amount of trunk-or-treaters increase this year and in the future.
