Holiday event planned by GFWC Junior Woman’s Club

ELKINS — An Elkins organization is planning an event featuring food, music and fun in an effort to raise scholarship money for three high school seniors.

The GFWC Junior Woman’s Club of Elkins will host its fourth annual Winter Gala on Dec. 8 at the Elks Country Club on Country Club Road. The event is co-sponsored by the Elks Lodge No. 1135.

Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and festivities will kick off at 8 p.m., featuring “Rick K. and the Allnighters,” based out of Morgantown.

“It has been over 25 years since Rick K. & the Allnighters have been here, so it’s going to be an awesome show,” said Angie Goff, Junior Woman’s Club president. “We are really, really excited that Rick K. is here and they are really excited to play Elkins again.”

Tonya Winans Photography will be available to take pictures throughout the evening. Everyone in attendance will receive a free photograph and the opportunity to purchase additional prints through the photography shop.

The event is for people ages 21 and older, and Goff describes it as “semi-formal to formal.” IDs will be checked at the door, and only 250 tickets will be sold.

The event will include a cash bar and heavy hors d’oeuvres.

All proceeds from this event will be split evenly between the Junior Woman’s Club and the Elks Lodge, and will go back into Randolph County in the form of college scholarships for graduating seniors and many more projects too numerous to list, Goff said.

“All the money raised goes toward the Mary K. Heineman scholarships that we provide for three Randolph County senior girls, one from Elkins High School, one from Tygarts Valley High School and one from Harman School,” Goff said. “We feel that furthering education for kids now is very important to the future of this country.”

Tickets are $40 per couple or a table for eight is $130. Tickets can be purchased through any Junior Woman’s Club member or by contacting Goff at 304-636-5626.

Goff urged people to come out and have a good time, all while helping raise money for area students.

“We are extremely excited,” Goff said.

Business sponsors for the gala include Tygart Valley Orthopedics, Elkins Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine, Greer Industries, Med Express, Isaac Jackson Hotel, Subway, Kessler Trucking, Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center and All Seasons Realty.
