Socks being donated for U.S. troops

BUCKHANNON – Throughout November and December, Shoe Sensation will be collecting heavy duty socks for troops overseas, as well as local active duty military members.

Donors can purchase the military socks from the store at 20 percent off, or can drop off other military approved socks to the Skyline Plaza location.

“It’s not just the ones we sell in our store,” said Danielle Hoffmaster, the store manager for the Shoe Sensation located in Buckhannon.

The original price for the socks in store is $14.99, and with the 20 percent discount the amount would be $11.99. All of the in-store socks eligible to be donated are made in the USA, noted Hoffmaster.

Hoffmaster said Shoe Sensation is working with a local recruiter to find a local destination, or one overseas that needs socks.

She added there are several people from Buckhannon who are in Puerto Rico that are in need of socks, as well.

“They’re looking for the most needed right now,” Hoffmaster said.

Though this is the second year that Shoe Sensation has collected donated military socks, this is the first year that the Buckhannon location has participated.

“I think it’s important because we have troops everywhere, especially small towns,” she said.

Hoffmaster commented that sometimes it’s easy to forget about the troops during the holiday season.

“So I think it’s important for us to participate in this because it shows that we still care about our troops,” she said.

Shoe Sensation will be collecting donations until Dec. 24. Depending on what agency the socks are donated to, the donations will be delivered locally or mailed out.
