PARKERSBURG — The fifth annual Classic Plastics Toy and Comic Expo will be Saturday and Sunday at the Parkersburg Art Center in downtown Parkersburg.

The expo will be 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at the art center at 725 Market St. in Parkersburg. Admission is $5 at the door or $8 for a two-day pass with children 10 and under admitted free.

There will be vendors, exhibitors and fans gathered for shared interests in toys, books, comics, movies and television. Activities will include game tournaments and others and an annual Cosplay Contest will be 4 p.m. Saturday.

The event is a fundraiser, with half of the proceeds benefiting the art center. The other half of this year’s proceeds will benefit Downtown PKB.

This year’s expo will feature two special guests, Daniel Pesina, known for his work in video games and movies, and creature designer Tim Clarke, who also attended the 2017 expo.

Clarke worked on “The Dark Crystal” and “Fraggle Rock” and is the creator of the popular Boglins and Sectaurs toy lines.

Pesina, also known as Master Pesina, was Johnny Cage and several other characters in the video games Mortal Kombat I and Mortal Kombat II as well as an extra in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II.

Following Saturday’s activities, Classic Plastics Toy Store will present a showing of “The Dark Crystal” at the Smoot Theatre at 213 Fifth St. at 7:30 p.m., followed by a question and answer session with Clarke. Tickets for the free movie are by donation and can be reserved at www.smootheatre.com. Tickets for special seating and the Q&A session are $10 and will be sold at the expo door on Saturday.

In conjunction with Saturday’s activities at the expo, Downtown PKB will again be offering its Savor Saturday program, set to take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Attendees and community members will have a chance to sample some items from the participating downtown restaurants for $1 per sample.

For every $1 purchase made at participating restaurants, customers will receive one entry into the Savor Saturday contest to win dinner for two at a downtown restaurant of their choice and two entry tickets into the 2018 Taste of Parkersburg.

The participating restaurants for the event include: Village Cakery; Unity Cafe; The Blennerhassett Hotel; Point Park Marketplace; Toscano in Appalachia; The Coffee Bar; Parkersburg Brewing Co.; Crystal Cafe; Breads & Beyond Bakery; Mango Latin Bistro; and DiCarlo’s Pizza.
