Info sought in homicide investigation
MOOREFIELD — Officials with the West Virginia State Police are seeking information and assistance from the public in a murder case, after the state chief medical examiner’s office ruled that the death of a body found in a remote area of Dolly Sods Wilderness Area in November 2016 is a homicide.
According to a press release from the West Virginia State Police received the week of the incident, on Nov. 12, 2016, members of the West Virginia State Police Moorefield/Petersburg detachment discovered the “deceased human body” of Ivan Dickason “Vanya” Perlis in the Grant County portion of Dolly Sods.
At the time, Perlis’ body was sent to the office of the state Chief Medical Examiner, where an autopsy was performed and the individual was able to be identified.
A press release from the West Virginia State Police received Thursday read, “upon further investigation, and with the assistance of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office, the investigation has officially been ruled a homicide.”
