New business opens in Elkins

The Inter-Mountain photo by Sarah Goodrich Diane Brown opened Mayleecade Boutique — a women’s clothing store — back in June.

ELKINS — With a background in finance, banking and retail and a keen eye for fashion, the owner of Mayleecade Boutique possessed all the elements to create her own business.

In mid-June, Diane Brown, of Elkins, opened Mayleecade Boutique, a women’s clothing shop that has an assortment of trendy blouses, dresses, jewelry and handbags.

Brown said she created Mayleecade — a play on her, her mother and daughters’ middle names — with a passion for style and fashion and a hope to enhance Elkins’ retail scene.

Located at 310 S. Randolph Ave. — formerly known as Che’ Bella Boutique — Brown said she thinks the location is a spot that will attract folks traveling Randolph Avenue and is relatively close to the downtown area.

With a variety of items and outfit ideas to choose from, Brown said the pieces represent her style, but she also includes items that community members would enjoy as well at an affordable price.

“I go online and I individually select every piece, so it is my taste, but I also try to think what other people would like also,” she said, adding she utilizes a few different brands.

Brown stressed that the she is hoping to cater to all ages.

“We’re trying to cater and trying to figure out what age would enjoy what,” she said.

As a gregarious person and someone who is well-known in the Elkins area, Brown said she enjoys seeing shoppers have fun as they search for the perfect outfit.

“It’s fun to watch people have fun shopping together – friends and family,” she said. “So that’s enjoyable.”

As fall and winter move in the next couple of months, Brown said the clothing items will change with the season and spring items will be discounted. In fact, with the Mountain State Forest Festival quickly approaching, Mayleecade’s dresses that would be ideal for the festival will be mark downed.

Aside from clothing, shoppers will find decadent jewelry delicately placed on vintage-inspired furniture throughout the boutique.

As customers request certain clothing pieces and items, Brown said she is hoping to expand the offerings of the boutique and will possibly begin selling shoes.

“We’re trying to give Elkins a little bit more shopping options,” she said.

When asked what she wants community members to know about Mayleecade, Brown said, “That it’s name brand and reasonably priced.”

Mayleecade Boutique’s hours of operations are from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
