‘Blues & Barbecues’ planned in Elkins

ELKINS — Downtown Elkins will be packed with smooth sounds and savory flavors Sept. 7 as the town also welcomes back Davis & Elkins College students.

In conjunction with their “First Friday” events, Elkins Main Street will also host the “D&E Night on the Town” from 5 to 7 p.m. during a “Blues & Barbecues” event.

The event, sponsored by MedExpress, will feature music by Dennis McClung Blues Band on the Delmonte Market porch, as well as BBQ vendors from Pig Pen Catering and Railyard Restaurant. Barbecue specials will also be available from other downtown restaurants.

“For the final First Friday event of the summer, the Elkins Main Street promotion committee prepared a packed night of great music, good food, and fun times,” Madalyn Humphrey, Elkins Main Street director, said.

A corn hole tournament, hosted by Kevin Carr and Chuck Wilson, and featuring cash prizes, kicks off with registration at 5 p.m. and the games will begin at 5:30 p.m. There is a $20 entry fee per team. Sidewalk art will also be available for children.

MedExpress officials said they are honored to participate in the event.

“MedExpress is so proud to be a part of this great event,” Danin Greusel, MedExpress community involvement manager, said. “It’s an honor to have the opportunity to help bring the Elkins community together for a night of fun for the whole family.”

Prior to the event, at 4:45 p.m., a celebration will be held for the opening of the Bike Trail Connector, which runs between the Elkins Depot Welcome Center and Darden Mill — home of the West Virginia Railroad Museum and Appalachian Forest Heritage Area.

Individuals are urged to join in a bike ride with Joey’s Bike Shop and explore the upcoming downtown bike trails.

The Bicycle-Pedestrian Connections project is supported by Atlantic Coast Pipeline, First Energy Foundation, West Virginia Humanities Council, the city of Elkins, the Randolph County Development Authority and Elkins Main Street.
