Woman struck by vehicle in Elkins accident

ELKINS — A woman was transported to Davis Medical Center after being struck by a car early Monday morning.

According to Elkins Police Department officials, at approximately 4:43 a.m. Monday, Cpl. T.C. Bennett and Patrolman W.D. Butcher responded to the intersection of Railroad and Harrison Avenue after a report of a woman on a bicycle being struck by a motorist.

The injuries sustained by the woman are not believed to be life threatening, Elkins Police Department 1st Sgt. R.W. Belt said.

The driver of the vehicle — a silver 2005 Hyundai Accent — fled the scene, police said.

Elkins Fire Department assisted on the scene and the woman was transported to Davis Medical Center by Randolph County EMS. The name of the woman is not being released at this time.
