Buckhannon man charged in sexual assault case


BUCKHANNON — A Buckhannon man has been arrested after allegedly admitting to sexually assaulting an 8-year-old 13 times over a two-year period.

Kenneth William Thompson, 36, was arrested for sexual assault in the first degree, a felony, and arraigned Friday before Magistrate Mike Coffman, according to the criminal complaint in the Upshur County Magistrate Clerk’s office

In an interview with Upshur County Sheriff’s Deputy Seth Cutright on Friday, Jan. 4, Thompson allegedly said he sexually assaulted the 8 year-old approximately 13 times in two years and that Nov. 16, 2018 – or approximately that date – was the most recent time.

Coffman set bond at $125,000.

If convicted, Thompson faces 15 to 35 years confinement in the state penitentiary and/or fined between $1,000 and $10,000.
