ELKINS– Davis & Elkins College Highland Dancers Eliana McCutcheon and Charlotte Layman want to share with others their dancing skills and love for the Scottish arts.

The two will conduct a free, five-week Highland dance class session beginning Thursday, Feb. 21, in the Creative Commons area of Myles Center for the Arts on the College campus. The classes will take place from 6-7 p.m. each Thursday through the end of March, with the exception of March 7.

The classes are open to D&E students and members of the area community, ages 12 and older. No experience is necessary to participate.

McCutcheon is a certified Highland dance teacher, while Layman has risen to the premier level of competition. Both began studying Highland dance with the West Virginia Highland Dancers in elementary school. They are the first to receive scholarships to D&E as members of the Davis & Elkins College Highland Dancers, a group that competes and performs throughout the region.

The college also offers scholarships for musicians who qualify for the West Virginia Highlanders of Davis & Elkins College Grade V bagpipe band.
