IOOF set to host conclave
ELKINS — In celebration of 200 years of service worldwide, the Randolph IOOF Lodge No. 116 will be hosting the 2019 Mid-Atlantic States Conclave this month.
Larry Ferguson, past sovereign grand master of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, said organizations from eight states in the United States will take part in the annual event.
“This year is the Odd Fellowship’s 200th year,” he said. “It came from England in 1819 to Baltimore.
“With the conclave, any ads that we get, or donations that we can auction off, all of the profit goes toward (providing) scholarships to students in West Virginia,” he continued.
Ferguson noted the last time a local lodge hosted the annual conclave, the organization was able to provide 13 $300 scholarships to students in West Virginia.
This special celebration will be held the weekend of March 22-23 at the Isaac Jackson Hotel in Elkins.
According to information provided by the Sovereign Grand Lodge website, the IOOF is dedicated to improving the character of mankind “by promoting the principles of friendship, love, truth, faith, hope, charity and universal justice.”
In addition, members strive to make the world a better place by aiding one another, the less fortunate, youth, elderly, the environment and the community. Members of the group also work to promote “good will and harmony amongst peoples and nations” while “holding the belief that all men and women regardless of race, nationality, religion, social status, gender, rank and station are brothers and sisters.”
