ELKINS — Five-time Grammy Award winning country music legend Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives will bring pure classic country to the 83rd Mountain State Forest Festival.

The performance is slated for 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 in Myles Center for the Arts Harper-McNeeley Auditorium on the campus of Davis & Elkins College.

The show opens with critically acclaimed teen prodigy Emi Sunshine. Hailing from eastern Tennessee and capturing attention from around the nation, Sunshine adds her unique, contemporary blend of roots music that is equal parts Americana, bluegrass, gospel and country.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, March 15 online at www.forestfestival.com, at the festival office at 101 Lough St., Elkins, or by calling 304-636-1824.

Since starting out singing gospel as a child, Stuart has spent more than four decades celebrating American roots music. He has toured and performed with the industry’s masters in country and bluegrass. As a teen in the 1970s, he took to the road with bluegrass legend Lester Flatt, then spent six years in Johnny Cash’s band in the 1980s. The musician and singer/songwriter went solo in the 1990s climbing the charts as a platinum recording artist.

Stuart’s talents earned him a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association. The singer and his band were also recently named “Duo/Group of the Year” at the Americana Music Association’s 16th Annual Americana Honors & Awards.

With a return to his first love — country music — Stuart and His Fabulous Superlative reached back into the vault and let loose some of their favorite collaborations and B-Sides with “Way Out West.” The first in a series of Desert Suite releases, the album features a never before released track, “Rattle and Roll,” produced by Mike Campbell (of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers).

Stuart also hosts a Late Night Jam at The Ryman, a yearly tradition which kicks off the CMA Music Festival.

“When many think about the annual Mountain State Forest Festival Country Music Show, one word immediately comes to mind: legendary,” said Mountain State Forest Festival Assistant Director and Vice President for Student Affairs at D&E Scott Goddard. “Dozens of legendary acts have performed on the stage at Davis & Elkins College for the Forest Festival – The Charlie Daniels Band, Kenney Chesney, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Lady Antebellum and so many more. Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives will keep this tradition alive.”

The 83rd Mountain State Forest Festival, themed “Magical Forest of Enchantment,” will take place in and around Elkins Sept. 28 to Oct. 6. For additional information, visit www.forestfestival.com or call 304-636-1824.
