United Way planning special new fundraiser

ELKINS — Randolph County United Way is getting a jumpstart on next year’s campaign by offering a special event for Mother’s Day.

People in the area are invited to attend a Mother’s Day “Paint for a Purpose” fundraiser event from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 2 at Midland Elementary School.

Karrah Washington, executive director for Randolph County’s United Way, said although the event will be held on Mother’s Day, anyone is invited to attend.

“We were trying to find something new and unique for people to try,” she said. “We think this will be something nice for a mother and daughter to do together and not do it on Mother’s Day weekend if they have other plans. … Anyone is encouraged to attend, but we have somewhat of a Mother’s Day theme.”

The event will feature hands-on painting led by Morgan Nucilli.

Anyone interested in taking part in the event are asked to pre-register by April 26. Individuals may call 304-636-0516 or email info@unitedwayrandolphwv.com to register. The cost of the fundraiser is $40.

All proceeds from the event will go toward the United Way’s campaign for the upcoming year, which ultimately benefits the organization’s partner agencies.
