ELKINS — Elkins Purple Majesties Red Hats hosted their monthly luncheon June 10 at the Adaland Mansion in Philippi.

Adaland coordinator Ann Serafin made our rowdy group feel most welcome and the meal was absolutely delicious. Queen Mother BJ McKenzie presided over the meeting.

A huge “thank you” to Duchesses Charlotte Thomas and Gerri Rosencrance for planning the event; and Evelyn Warner and Gayle Zirkle for handling the huge monetary and check in duties for the day.

Each member received a lovely purple or red flower as a table favor that will now beautify their gardens for the rest of the summer.

The business meeting was lengthy due to announcements that dues for the upcoming year are due and payable; as well as signup for duchesses who plan upcoming meetings and any changes to be made before the membership booklet is printed for the upcoming year.

Anyone wishing to pay dues please contact Queen BJ at the number below.

Member Adrine Vance asked the Lord’s Blessing, and members enjoyed their delicious lunch.

The traditional warning was led by Queen Mother McKenzie. June birthdays were announced and members serenaded birthday Majesties Phyllis Carr and Sharon Daniels on their kazoos.

Prize tickets were announced and lucky winners were awarded lovely prizes.

The July Purple Majesties luncheon will be held July 8 at The Steer Steakhouse in Elkins. The buffet menu includes baked steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad, beverages and dessert.

Thanks to July duchesses Texie Mallow and Mary Lou Irwin for planning this upcoming event.

The Red Hat Store was open and many members “cashed in” on some great bargains. Thanks to all who made purchases, Susan Channell for organizing the sale items and Beverly Denison for overseeing the purchases.

The Red Hat Store will be open again during the July luncheon so bring that extra cash and any items you would like to donate for resale.

If you would like to join this fun loving “nifty after 50” group or make a reservation for the July meeting, call Queen Mother B.J. McKenzie at 304-614-3079.
