Community volunteers who want to share their enthusiasm for celebrating the Christmas season in Philippi have been meeting throughout the summer months to plan the 2019 A Covered Bridge Christmas, a month-long celebration of this special secular and sacred holiday.

After its early August meeting, the committee is pleased to announce dates of major activities for the 2019 celebration. “We hope everyone will mark their calendars and save these dates to join in the fun throughout the Philippi area,” said a committee spokesperson.

The dates to remember are: 7 p.m. Dec. 6 for the Christmas Parade and the arrival of Santa in downtown Philippi; 4 p.m. Dec. 7 for the Christmas Community Choir Concert in the Philippi Baptist Church; beginning at 6 p.m. Dec. 10 and 17 for Christmas Caroling at the Courthouse Square Gazebo; 7 p.m. Dec. 13 and 3 p.m. Dec. 14 for the annual Christmas play in Funkhouser Auditorium on the AB University campus; from 6 – 9 p.m. Dec. 19 for the Christmas Stroll; and Community residential home lighting contest with decorating from Dec. 1-15 and winners being announced Dec. 19 at the Stroll.

Any community member who wants to volunteer and help spread the enthusiasm should contact Phil Bower, Philippi mayor, at plbowersphilippimayor@outlook.com. The next meeting of the Covered Bridge Christmas committee is at 6 p.m. Thursday in City Hall. All are welcome to attend.
