Autumn on the Dryfork Fest is set for Saturday

DRYFORK — The Dryfork Recreation Center is kicking off autumn with the 20th annual Autumn on the Dryfork Festival, beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday at 11 a.m.

Preceeding the festival is the Miss Autumn on the Dryfork Pageant, held at Harman School gym at 7 p.m. today. Contestants compete for one of six titles, including Little Miss, Teen Miss and Miss Autumn on the Dryfork.

The festival itself begins with a flag raising ceremony on Saturday morning.

“We have a pork roast and a chicken barbecue,” said Rex Vance, an organizer for the festival. Meals include beans, slaw, a roll and a drink. Desserts are also available.

“We make cider right on site,” Vance said. Apple butter is also made at the event in an old-fashioned kettle and will be available for purchase.

Various vendors attend the event and sell commodities such as honey and woodworking items.

“We also have an auction, a silent auction,” said Vance.

Live local music acts will perform at the Autumn on the Dryfork Festival, including the Maysville Express. Musicians Mike Bennett, Randy Vance and Deanna Armentrout will take the stage as well.

“Sometimes we get people who want to sing and we just let them go up and sing,” said Vance.

Funds from the festival will go toward constructing a building on site for community and wellness gatherings.

The Dry Fork Recreation Center has been a nonprofit organization since 1998 and volunteers have worked relentlessly to upgrade and build the center into a fully functional wellness park.

The Dry Fork Recreation Center serves the community of Harman and surrounding area.
