Evelyn Murphy

Evelyn Marie Taylor Murphy, 91, a resident of Elkins, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday evening, Jan. 8, 2013, in Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center at Elkins. She had been in declining health for the past year.

She was born Wednesday, June 1, 1921, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Raymond and Eva Ware Taylor.

On Sept. 28, 1945, at Elkins, she was married to Charles Murphy, who survives. They had celebrated 67 years of marriage.

Also surviving are one son, David Craig Murphy of Elkins; two daughters, Karen Sue Winans and husband, Bob, of Elkins and Kathryn Elizabeth Hewitt of Morgantown; two sisters, Donna Mae Ware of Mogadore, Ohio, and Thelma Phillips of Virginia; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were one infant daughter, Cheryl Diane Murphy; one brother, Donald Ray Taylor; and one sister, Mary E. Williams.

Evelyn was a graduate of Elkins High School and was retired from Davis Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Elkins Church of God and Family Worship Center and was well-known for her cooking and baking.

Mrs. Murphy’s request for cremation was honored. A graveside service will be conducted in American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery at a later date.
