Jonathan Wayne “John” Keller, 64, a lifelong resident of Elkins, passed from this life early Monday morning, Jan. 14, 2013, in Hospice Care Inpatient Center in Elkins.
He was born Saturday, May 15, 1948, at Elkins. John was raised by his paternal grandparents, the late Jacob and Sylvia Keller.
He was never married.
John is survived by his sister and friend, Eloise Keller of Elkins; his aunt, Nancy Keller of Elkins; and his cousins, Chuck and Pam Keller of Elkins.
John was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1969. He served with the United States Army and worked as a custodian with G.C. Murphy Co. and then with the Randolph County Board of Education for 29 years. John was very involved in local community events having served as Santa for the Elks and Dr. Hart’s annual Christmas Party, the Easter Bunny for Elkins Parks and Recreation and Dr. Hart’s annual Easter Party, McGruff, the Crime Dog, for the Elkins City Police Department for 20 years and had been a member of Elkins Jaycees. He served as the band manager for Elkins High School and volunteer track coach for Elkins Middle School. John had run in the Pittsburgh Marathon for 26 years, and he loved his Coca-Cola and the Dallas Cowboys. John was a member of Elkins Church of God.
Visitation will be conducted at Elkins Church of God today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the church Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Jamie Estep and the Rev. Eli Hostetler will officiate, and interment will follow in Elkins Memorial Gardens.
