Reginald “Rick” Thomas left this life Jan. 8, 2013, in Fredericksburg, Va., after a valiant fight with a brief illness. He was 54 years of age.
He was born at Summersville to Emil and Barbara Jean Thomas.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Terry; daughter, Christina of Fredericksburg, Va.; and son, J.R. and wife, Sarah, of Montrose. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Tristan, Bethany, Braxton and Barbara Jean; one brother, Timothy; and three sisters, Rhonda, Jo Annette and Paula.
He was a 1976 graduate of Nicholas County High School with his wife and attended West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon and Duke Divinity School in Durham, N.C. He served as a pastor in the United Methodist Church for more than eight years, served as executive director for Tyrand Cooperative Ministries in Randolph County for six years and Mountain Partners in Community Development in Elkins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Emil; and mother, Barbara Jean of Mt. Nebo.
The memorial service will be conducted in Mt. Nebo, just south of Summersville Saturday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m. at Gilgal United Methodist Church.
The family and Rick request that, in lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Tyrand Cooperative Ministries in Mill Creek or another Christian ministry of choice. The family also wants to thank each and every person that has reached out in love to help support them during this trying time. It is greatly appreciated.
