Joyce Ann “Joy” Goss, 71, of Buckhannon, passed away peacefully in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital with her devoted husband by her side on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013.
She was born Nov. 14, 1941, in Rowan County, Ky., a daughter of the late David Burke and Ruth Cox Alderman.
On April 21, 1963, she married John Goss, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, John Paul Goss II and wife, Sam, of Hodgesville; one daughter, Jill Goss of Buckhannon; one grandson, Chad Goss of Morgantown; five granddaughters, Johnelle, Jordyn, Jesika and Jonaye Goss, all of Hodgesville, and Shelby Starnes of Buckhannon; three stepgrandchildren, Erika, Jay and Lyndsey Trail; four stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, John Alderman of Covington, Ga., and Ashley Alderman of Flemingsburg, Ky.; and one sister, Myrna Carpenter of Conyers, Ga.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Lynn Goss; one stepgrandson, Kevin Starnes; and two sisters, Ramona Semones and Kaye Frye.
Joy was the owner of Joyce Ann’s Beauty Shop and Smaller Measure’s. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Friends will be received Sunday, Feb. 24, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease L. Day officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Baptist Cemetery at Hall.
