Ronald Douglas “Ron” Markley, 69, went to be with the Lord late Saturday evening, Feb. 9, 2013, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He had been in failing health but death was sudden and unexpected.
Ron was born Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1943, at Elkins, a son of the late Cecil Gilbert Markley and Belva Myrtle Boyles Markley.
On Aug. 6, 1966, he married the former Eva Louise Smith, who survives in Mabie. They enjoyed 46 years of marriage.
Also left to cherish his memory are two children, Jonathan M. Markley of Mabie and Rita L. Johnson and husband, Todd, of Chesapeake, Va.; two grandchildren, Travis Michael Ramsey and Jordan Brice Findley, both of Chesapeake, Va.; one sister, Kathleen Hope “Kitty” Rowan and husband, Darrell “Buck,” of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Ron in death, besides his parents, were two brothers, Dale and Cecil Eldon “Buster” Markley; one sister: Gretha Faith Moran; one half brother, Alfred Clayton “Fritz” Phillips; and one half sister, Dorothy June Lambert.
Ron was a Methodist by faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Ron worked as a coal miner locally for many years. He will be greatly missed by his family, pets and his flea market friends.
Mr. Markley’s request for cremation will be honored, and a private memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
