Velma Echard

Velma Echard, 88, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at her home.

She was born March 12, 1924, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Lonnie and Belle Hibbs Lowe.

On May 8, 1942, she married E. Pearl Echard, who preceded her in death Sept. 4, 1985.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Warren Echard.

She is survived by three daughters, Crystal Tenney and husband, Kenneth, and Helen Joyce Echard, all of Buckhannon and Anita Rose Hamner of Mt. Carmel; three grandsons, Mitchell Tenney of Ten Mile, Martin Tenney of Buckhannon and Edgar Hamner of Mt. Carmel; three granddaughters, Rosalin Arbogast of Mill Creek, Julie Hamner of Buckhannon and Olivia Hamner of Mt. Carmel; five great-grandchildren and one sister, Iris Brake of Export, Pa.

Mrs. Echard was a clerical worker at the Senior Center. She was a member of Sand Run Baptist Church and attended Tallmansville Baptist Church. Mrs. Echard was a past member of Tallmansville Community Educational Outreach Society and Pythian Sisters.

Friends will be received today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Tim Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Tallmansville.
