Velma Marie Smith, 93, of Valley River Road, Belington, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 20, 2013, in Davis Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness.
She was born Sept. 17, 1919, at Belington, a daughter of the late Howard and Leta O’Dell Werner Teter.
On Dec. 22, 1939, she was married to Samuel Robert Smith, who preceded her in death Oct. 14, 1980.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen J. Bonner of Canaan Valley and Barbara S. Hawk of Silver Spring, Md.; two grandsons, Curtis Bonner of Canaan Valley and Quentin Bonner, Spartanburg, S.C.; and four great-grandchildren, Katherine Bonner, Sarah Bonner, Kristen Bonner and Jacob Bonner.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, Derward Teter and an infant brother, Ronald Teter; and Ronald’s twin sister, Relina Teter.
Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Belington High School and retired as a cook in the school lunch program of the Barbour County Board of Education. Her last position was in Belington Middle School. She was an avid animal lover.
Mrs. Smith’s remains are to be cremated. Arrangements for graveside services and committal of the ashes in Concord Cemetery are currently incomplete.
