Henry “Ron” Curkendall, 87, a resident of Volga, passed away at his home March 14, 2013, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Mountain Hospice.
He was born Sept. 23, 1925, at Century, a son of the late Marvin and Bessie Payne Curkendall.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Tula Karickhoff Curkendall; one daughter, Linda Wagner and husband, Norman, of Elkins; two grandchildren, Cory “Ron” Wagner and Lydia Jones and husband, Grant, all of Elkins; one sister, Joann Simons of Williamsport, Ohio; four brothers, Deward Curkendall and wife, Rose, of Painesville, Ohio, Blair Curkendall and wife, Jean, Gary Curkendall and wife, Judy, and Max Curkendall and wife, Sharon, all of Parkersburg; and sister-in-law, Mary Curkendall of Parkersburg.
Mr. Curkendall was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Smearman and Beryl Hall; and three brothers, Wayne, Kenny and John Curkendall.
Ron was a heavy equipment operator, having last worked at King Knob Coal. Mr. Curkendall was an active member of Queen’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Volga. Mr. Curkendall was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved feeding the birds, sitting on his front porch, maintaining his lawn and delighted in seeing his grandchildren and their favorite dog, Wesley. He will be truly missed by all.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi today from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, March 16, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the services hour with the Rev. Randy Simms officiating. Entombment will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Mausoleum.
