James W. Simon, 92, a resident of Mansfield Place, and a former resident of Route 3 in Philippi, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013.
He was born Sept. 13, 1920, at Warren, Ohio, a son of the late Adlai and Alice Anglin Simon.
He was united in marriage in October 1943, to Mary Agnes Thrasher Simon, who preceded him in death Jan. 24, 2005. Surviving are one daughter, Loretta “Jeanne” Anglin and husband, Rodger, of Philippi; one son, Timothy W. Simon and wife, Robyn, of Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister, Eloise Lubsy of Escondido, Calif.; one brother, Frank Simon and wife, Eileen, of Vista, Calif.; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Mary Louise Simon; one son, James H. Simon; one infant brother; two brothers, Harry Simon and Earl Simon; and one sister, Maxine Leach.
Mr. Simon worked as a shop foreman and retired from C & W Coal Co. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in earlier years and enjoyed gardening. He was a past member of Philippi United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi Wednesday, March 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 8 to 11 a.m., the service hour with the Rev. Linda Payton officiating. Interment will follow in Mary’s Chapel Cemetery.
