Kathryn L. “Kathy” Madden, 57, a resident of Crystal Springs, passed away at 1:05 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

Saturday morning, Mrs. Madden will be moved to St. Patrick Catholic Church at Coalton where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with the Very Rev. Donald X. Higgs, VF presiding. Interment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery at Kingsville.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Davis House, DHS Foundation/Davis House, P.O. Box 1188, Elkins, WV 26241 or to the Randolph County Humane Society, P.O. Box 785, Elkins, WV 26241, in memory of Kathy. Kathryn L. “Kathy” Madden, 57, a resident of Crystal Springs, passed away at 1:05 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A prayer service will be conducted at 7 p.m. today with the Very Rev. Donald X. Higgs, VF as the presider. On Saturday, March 16, Mrs. Madden will be moved to St. Patrick Catholic Church at Coalton where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with the Very Rev. Donald X. Kathryn L. “Kathy” Madden, 57, a resident of Crystal Springs, passed away at 1:05 a.m. Tuesday in Davis Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 28, 1955, at Elkins, a daughter of the late John Williams and Ina Louise Kittle Lanford.

On June 28, 1980, at Coalton, she was married to Patrick “Kevin” Madden, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Joshua Patrick Madden, currently serving in the United States Army and his wife, Lindsy Baker Madden, who resides at Beverly and Derek Christopher Madden of Etna, Pa. One brother, Robert “Buc” Reilly and wife, Holly, of Elkins; five sisters, Alice Phillips of Mansfield, Ohio, Pat Rossi and husband, Jim, and Donna Long and husband, Bruce, all of Coalton, Linda Lanford of Mabie and Charlotte Newcome and husband, Ken, of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Leroy Chewning of Elkins and Al Roberts of Warrington, Va.; sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-law, Linda Wilmoth, Jane and Tom Wamsley, Susan Lister, Karen and Darrell Hanlin and Larry and Dotty Madden; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Also preceding her in death were her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Phil and Ann Madden; one sister, Carolyn Chewning; four brothers, William Joe Reilly, Mark Lanford, William Bill Lanford and Sonny Lanford; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Roberts; and two brothers-in-law, Rodger Nethken and Mike Lister.

Kathy graduated from Fairmont State College and did additional graduate work through West Virginia University. She retired from the Harman School after 32 years of teaching where she taught art and was a huge supporter of Harman School Athletics, Gear Up sponsor, National Honor Society advisor and Art Club advisor. She loved all of her students, as she touched the lives of so many. She often spoke of them as her girls and boys.

She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Laureate Alpha Delta Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, Seneca Trail Artist Guild and American Federation of Teachers. Kathy was also a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church at Coalton, where she was a member of the Famed team, St. Patrick’s Ladies Guild, St. Patrick Spaghetti Cookers and was also in charge of the cake room during the dinners. She was an accomplished artist whose many works have been shown throughout the state including an entry in the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Wildlife calendar. She was an avid photographer and especially enjoyed the holiday family gatherings and picnics at her home.
