Margaret Simmons

Margaret Ann “Wendy” Simmons, 77, went home to be with our Lord Wednesday afternoon, March 27, 2013, in Hospice Care Inpatient Unit.

She was a resident of Mabie and enjoyed attending Harrison Community Church and spending time with her church family.

She was born, April 27, 1935, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Jess William and Lola Zickefoose Hanifan.

On Dec. 24, 1951, she was married to Jacob “Bill” Simmons, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, William “Billy” Simmons and wife, Donna, and Timothy Simmons and wife, Jenny, all of Mabie; three daughters, Mary Ann Smith of Cassity, Jane Rowan and husband, Randy, and Linda Jones and husband, Scott, all of Mabie, three brothers, Denver Hanifan and wife, Hilda, of Long Run community, Maynard Hanifan and wife, Luella, and Marvin Hanifan and wife, Dottie, all of Buckhannon; and one sister, Doris Talbott of Sun City, Ariz. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren as well as a very large extended family.

Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Stafford, Calvin and Oliver Hanifan; six sisters, Lottie Lewis, Helen Wagner, Jean Phipps, Adis Corrick, Dessie Hanifan and Naomi Brant; and two great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Tiffany Arnold.

Margaret Ann enjoyed the outdoors and watching her birds. She loved to hunt and to work in her garden. She grew beautiful flowers which brightened every ones lives. She loved nothing more than being surrounded by her family, especially the children. She is loved by many and will be sadly missed until we all join her in Heaven.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. There will be no services Sunday. On Monday, April 1, Ms. Simmons will be moved to Harrison Community Church for viewing from 10 until 11 a.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Greg Lanham will officiate, and interment will follow in Simmons Cemetery at Long Run near Cassity.
