Howard Hall Gear, 94, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Monday afternoon, March 25, 2013, in Valentine Assisted Living in Beverly.
Howard was a devoted and loving husband and father. He was a gentle giant with a compassionate heart and provided humble service to others. He embodied the strength and wisdom described in Proverbs and believed that life should be lived as directed by scripture. Howard has fought the good fight and now sees the face of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ida Gear; wives, Dollie Madison Gear and Macel Mitzi Gear; and son-in-law, Leon Winans.
Left to cherish Howard’s memory are three daughters, Margaret Ann Winans of Elkins, Vickie Lynn Kelley and husband, Art, of North Carolina, and Janet Sue Wolfe and husband, Jim, of Illinois; seven grandchildren, Matt Kelley and wife, Meredith, Josh Kelley, Karla Gidwani and husband, Sanjay, Owen Wolfe, Joyce Henline, Sherri Davis and husband, Matt, and Cecil Winans; 10 great-grandchildren, Ashley Henline, Justin Pennington, Dillon Hamrick, Cory Lambert, Brayden and Hannah Davis, Tristan and Ean Winans, Piper Kelley and Asha Gidwani; and one great-great-grandchild, Jordan Hamrick.
Mr. Gear’s request for cremation will be honored. A graveside service will be conducted at Elkins Memorial Gardens Saturday, April 6, at 1 p.m.
