Albert Lincoln Wilfong, 86, of Dunmore, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013, in University Of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, Va.
Born Dec. 20, 1926, at Dunmore, he was a son of the late Charles and Orpha Lindsay Wilfong.
He was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Charles William Wilfong.
Albert was a lifelong livestock farmer who truly enjoyed the hard work that was involved with farming. He was also an avid turkey hunter throughout his life. He served on the Pocahontas County Commission from 1984 to 1990. He was a 70-year member of Farm Bureau. He was also a longtime member of the West Virginia Cattlemens, West Virginia Shepherds Federation and National Wild Turkey Federation. He has served several terms as a board member of the Pocahontas Producers Livestock Market. During the years, Albert received many honors for his farming work – 1947 West Virginia FFA Star Farmer, 1960 West Virginia FFA Established Farmer, 1965 Statewide Winner of Farming for Better Living Award, 1974 National Efficiency Award for Sheep Production, 1979 Master Farmer Award, 1995 Inducted into West Virginia Ag and Forestry Hall of Fame and 2001 West Virginia Farm Bureau Distinguished Service Award.
Albert’s religious faith has always been his foundation, and he regularly attended New Hope Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Jackson Wilfong; sister, Ruth Horner; three children, Shirley Wilkins and husband, Jack, of Hillsboro, Charles Wilfong and wife, Linda, and Patricia Wilfong, all of Dunmore; six grandchildren, Susan Wilkins, Jonathan Wilkins of Hillsboro, Sarah (Wilkins) Brown and husband, Lee, of Woodrow, Nicole (Wilfong) Sattler and husband, Silas, Kristine (Wilfong) Sharp and husband, Arthur, and Charles Albert Wilfong II, all of Dunmore; and two great-grandchildren, Trey Sattler and Noah Sharp.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at New Hope Church of the Brethren in Dunmore with the Rev. David Rittenhouse officiating. Burial will follow in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery on Wesley Chapel Road. Viewing will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church prior to the funeral.
