Bernard Everson

Mr. Bernard Harold Everson, 89, a resident of Mouse Run near Belington, departed this life Thursday evening, May 16, 2013, in the Broaddus Hospital acute care unit at Philippi, following a period of declining health.

He was born March 2, 1924, in Barbour County, a son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Ollie Blanche Thompson Everson.

On Sept. 17, 1945, he was united in marriage to the former Macel Marie England, who preceded him in death May 2, 2011.

Mr. Everson is survived by three children, Wilma Kodak and husband, David, of Ashland, Ohio, Harold Everson and wife, Elizabeth, of Junior and Ray Everson of Belington; one brother, Sherwood “Jim” Everson and wife, Dessie, of Nebo; four grandchildren, Stacy Everson, Bernie Everson and wife, Jodie, Jeanie Piatt and husband, David, and Brian Day; and four stepgrandchildren, Hayden Poe, Bubba and Dylan England and Tasha Everson. Great-grandchildren surviving are, Shannon, Brittany, Michael, Rudy, Austin, Hunter, Sheena, Chase, Tiffany and Spud; and four great-great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include several nieces and nephews, and special nieces and nephews that he helped raise are, Jack Lantz, Sue Lantz, and Kay Burner. Also surviving is his faithful canine companion, “Patch.”

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Harold “Keith” Everson, two brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Everson attended the schools of Barbour County, was an avid farmer and was a retired coal miner.

Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington Sunday, May 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. and again Monday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating. Interment will follow in Everson Cemetery at Mouse Run.

Talbott Funeral Home of Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Bernard Harold Everson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family to help with final expenses. Condolences may be sent to the family at
