Buck Sands, 80, of Hackers Creek Road, Buckhannon, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 30, 2013.
He was born Feb. 14, 1933, in Gilmer County.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Harold Robert and Virgie McElwee Sands; and his sister, Doris Shepherd.
Buck is survived by five children, Debra Ann Sands of California, James Michael Sands and wife, Becky, of Buckhannon, Susan Pamela Favreau and husband, Charles, of Illinois, Gerald Robert Sands and wife, Lori, of North Carolina, and Jodi Lynn Sands of New York; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Sands and wife, Becky, of Parkersburg; and sister, Marlene Linger and husband, Donald, of Jane Lew.
He was a member of the Mountain Model “A” Club and loved to restore antique cars, was an equipment operator and mechanic for many businesses in the local area and was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Sands enjoyed going to church. He was a member, trustee and choir member at Buckhannon Union Mission Church.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel in Buckhannon. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. at Buckhannon Union Mission Church on the Vicksburg Road, Buckhannon Friday, May 3, with the Rev. Dennis Estes officiating. Burial will follow in Sands Family Cemetery, Hackers Creek Road, Buckhannon. Viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
