Edward Hilleary

Alfred Edward “Ed” Hilleary, 84, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Friday evening, May 3, 2013, in Valentine’s Personal Care Home in Elkins.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the funeral hour. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home today at 1 p.m. The Rev. Walter Ellison will officiate, and cremation will follow.

Edward Hilleary

Alfred Edward “Ed” Hilleary, 84, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Friday evening, May 3, 2013, at Valentine’s Personal Care Home in Elkins.

He was born on Monday, Jan. 28, 1929, at Kerens, a son of the late John Edward and Gertrude E. Hertig Hilleary.

On Jan. 23, 1954, at Elkins, he was married to the late Eleanor Jean Right. They had celebrated 57 years of marriage.

Surviving are one sister, Olive Jackson of Alaska; one daughter-in-law, Jeanette Hilleary of Elkins; an three step grandchildren, Crystal, Ben and Daniel Roy.

Preceding him in death are two sons, Keith Myers Hilleary on July 15, 2011, and one infant son, Johnny Hilleary; one brother, Fred Hilleary; and four sisters, Arthelia Brooks, Lucille Mulligan, Oma Quay and Ruth Parcell.

Alfred was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School with the class of 1946. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during WWII. He was a self-employed truck driver and then drove trucks for various companies. He was formerly employed with Island Creek Coal Co. as a coal miner. He attended the Wayside United Methodist Church at Poe Run and enjoyed fishing and sports.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the funeral hour. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Walter Ellison will officiate and cremation will follow.
