James “Jim” Laddie Pennington, 75, of Durbin, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital in Marlinton.
Mr. Pennington was born Nov. 18, 1937, at Slaty Fork, and was the son of the late Edward “Ed” and Flossie Varner Pennington.
Jim was a retired security guard with 21 years of service at the NRAO, three years with Interstate Lumber Company and worked with Belcher’s Sawmill. Jim was a U.S. Army Veteran, member of the American Legion and a former Moose member.
Preceding Jim death other than his parents were grandson, Will James Pennington; sisters, Retha Doyle, Hazel Pennington, Catherine Dillon and Luella Pennington; brothers Roy, Paul, Carl and Steamboat Pennington.
Surviving are his daughter, Catherine Pennington of Beverly; son, James L. “Jimmy” Pennington and wife, Lucille, of Bartow; grandchildren Felicia Smith (Josh), Rodney Mallow, Timothy Mallow, Jason Mallow and Luke Mallow; great grandchildren. Easton and Tanner Smith; sisters Lebell Gum of Cass and Betty Swink of Cass.
Funeral services for Mr. Pennington will be Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale with Pastor David Plank officiating. Internment will follow with the Pocahontas County Veterans Honor Guard at the Arbovale Cemetery Annex. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
