Mary Cooper Hartman, 76, a resident of Elkins, passed away Thursday evening, May 16, 2013, in Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown. She had been in declining health, but her death was unexpected.
She was born Sept. 15, 1936, at Cass, a daughter of the late Walter E. and Martha E. Tharp Cooper.
On July 16, 1961, at Elkins, she married William G. “Bill” Hartman, who survives in Elkins.
Also surviving are one daughter, Holly Hartman-Adams and husband, Raymond, of Morgantown; a grandson, Bryce William Adams of Morgantown; two brothers, Tom Cooper of Elkins and Ellis Cooper and wife, Pattie, of Morgantown; two sisters, Mrs. Josephine (Jack) Kelly of Lancaster, Pa., and Joyce (Robert) Moore of Morgantown; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Barbara (Charlie) Wilburn of Bridgeport.
Also preceding her in death was a half sister, Doris Loraine Brown.
Mary was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1954. She was employed by C & P Telephone Co. She later, along with her husband, operated Hartman Insurance Agency in Elkins for many years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Elkins, the United Methodist Women and the Women’s Club of Elkins. Mary enjoyed cooking and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandson, Bryce.
Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Monday, May 20, she will be moved to the First United Methodist Church in Elkins where a funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. The Rev. Barry R. Moll and the Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley will officiate, and interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
