Raleigh Ruddle

Raleigh Moomau Ruddle, 93, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013, in the home in which he was born, surrounded by his family and in the care of Mountain Hospice.

He was born March 23, 1920, at Deer Run, the son of the late Taylor and Bessie Henkel Ruddle.

On Oct., 25, 1950 Raleigh married his wife of 62 years, Genevieve Norma Smith, who lives at Deer Run.

Mr. Ruddle was a 1939 graduate of Franklin High School. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church since 1936 and served as Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher and chair of administrative council. Raleigh was a former mail carrier, and spent his entire life as a farmer, carpenter, and a “country vet.” He was an avid horseman, hunter, and Franklin (now Pendleton County) High School and West Virginia University sports fan.

Mr. Ruddle was a member of Pendleton County Farm Bureau, a 58-year member and past master of the Pendleton Lodge 144 AF & AM. He served as a member of Pendleton County Wool Pool for many years and served on the board of directors for ASCS now known as NRCS and also served as a member of Pendleton County Board of Education for 12 years.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Ruddle is survived by a daughter, Sharon Louise Harr and husband, Raymond, of Franklin; and a son, Tracy Alan Ruddle of Franklin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Hinkle Ruddle; and three sisters, Inez Hartman, Hazel Dyer and Mabel Craig.

Mr. Ruddle’s family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. The Rev. Bob Anderson and the Rev. Stanley Kile will officiate funeral services Friday, May 17, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery at Franklin with a Masonic graveside service conducted by Pendleton Lodge 144 AF & AM.
