Carl Elmore

Carl David Elmore, 73, a resident of the Jimtown Community, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013, in the Davis Memorial Hospital Emergency Department.

He was born Jan. 13, 1940, at Jimtown, the son of the late Fred W. Elmore and Gladys Cutright Elmore.

Carl grew up in Jimtown and graduated from Coalton High School. He attended Phillips Chapel United Methodist Church at Jimtown, and owned and operated Elmore Logging. He loved gardening, fishing and hunting. Carl was appreciated for his love of his family and friends and for his giving heart.

On Oct. 22, 1961, he was married to Carolyn Harlan Elmore, who survives.

Also surviving is one daughter, Tammy Elmore Phillips and husband, John; two sons, Todd R. Elmore and wife, Diane, of Mill Creek and Thomas C. Elmore and wife, Leslie, of Montrose; six grandchildren, Brandon Elmore and Tish of Fairmont, Eric and Ashley Phillips of Coalton, Brittany Elmore of Charleston, Chloe Phillips of Coalton, Jonathan and Tyler Elmore of Montrose; two great-grandchildren, Alyson and Jancen Phillips of Coalton.

He is also survived by three sisters, Kathryn Howes and husband, Alfred, of Kingsville, Jeanie Merritt of Elkins, Joy Bender and husband, Thomas, of Kingsville; sister-in-law. Elsie Elmore of Jimtown; brothers-in-law, Roberts Phillips of Jimtown and Howard Miller of Coalton; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill Harlan and wife, Dorothy Jean, of Adolph, Richard Harlan and wife, Terry, of Jimtown, Kenneth Harlan and wife, Doretta, of Jimtown, Dale Harlan and wife, Anna, of Jimtown, Bert Harlan and wife, Mary, of Junior, Jim Harlan and wife, Sandy, of Jimtown, Mary Ann Hodgkiss and husband, Edward, of Sunet Beach, N.C., Mildred Thompson and husband. Roger. of Elkins, Brenda Currence and husband. Dennis. of Tallmansville, Linda Biller of Kerens, Barbara Sams and husband. Michael. of Parkersburg, Patti Harlan Hodgkiss and husband. Larry. of Woodbine, Md., and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive along with his dogs, Daultin and Bear.

Also preceding him in death were his mother-in-law and father-in-law, George and Lucy Harlan; sisters, Loretta Phillips, Lorraine Wolfe and husband, Hermit, Wilma Bibey and husband, Kenneth, Shirley Bodkins and husband, Russell, and Rosalee Miller; brothers, Harlie Elmore and wife, Edith, Bill and Ezma Elmore, John Elmore, Ray Elmore and wife, Judy, Robert Elmore; and brother-in-law Doug Biller.

Friends called on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Sunday, June 2, Mr. Elmore was moved to the Phillips Chapel Church at Jimtown, where a funeral service was held with the Rev. Jim Murphy officiating and interment followed in the Phillips Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Phillips Chapel Church, PO Box 2392, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Mr. Elmore.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Sunday, June 2, Mr. Elmore will be moved to Phillips Chapel Church at Jimtown where a funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. The Rev. Jim Murphy will officiate, and interment will follow in Phillips Cemetery.
