Murl Mayle

Murl Cecil Mayle, 58, of Route 1, Moatsville, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, following a brief illness. He had suffered a disabling stroke in 2002 but had lived a moderately normal life for the past 11 years.

He was born Dec. 21, 1954, at Philippi, a son of Alice Virginia Croston Mayle, who survives at Moatsville and the late Hartsel Mayle.

On Aug. 28, 1976, he married the former Joy Lynn Croston, who survives at their home.

Also surviving are one daughter, Lacy Freeman and husband, Allen; one son, Edward S. Mayle and wife, Cindy, all of Moatsville; seven grandchildren, Alesa Foster, Taylor Mayle, Brodie Mayle, Avah Johnson, Zach Freeman, Brandon Freeman and Emilee Freeman; one sister, Marie Mayle, and her daughter, Kammie Lynn Mayle, who called Murl her “second daddy;” two brothers, Boyd H. (Dawn) Mayle and Bliss (Donna) Mayle, all of Moatsville; nephews, B.J. Mayle and Adam Mayle; and niece, Samantha Mayle.

Mr. Mayle was an operating engineer and a member of Operating Engineers Local 132. He had been employed by Harman Construction, West Virginia Paving, Eagle Ridge Trucking and at Harrison Power Station. He was an avid farmer and enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding four-wheelers. He was an avid NASCAR and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, from Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 S. Main St. in Philippi. The Rev. Winfield Mayle will officiate, and interment will follow in Welch Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 until 9 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, Saturday.
