Geraldine V. Linger
Geraldine “Jerry” V. (Bennett) Linger of Buckhannon passed away suddenly at her home on July 20, 2013.
Jerry was born Nov. 12, 1932, in Beverly, the oldest child of the children born to Carl V. and Serena A. (Pritt) Bennett.
She grew up in mining towns around central West Virginia with her five brothers and sisters. She graduated from Buckhannon- Upshur High School in 1950. She met her husband, Paul Linger, in Buckhannon, and they were married in 1951. They enjoyed 61 years together. She was employed at West Virginia Wesleyan College for approximately 30 years where she held several positions. Jerry was active in her church and enjoyed the time she spent with her family, extended family and friends. She and Paul traveled a great deal following their retirement. She was an avid reader and loved the outdoors.
Jerry was a dear wife, devoted mother, cherished sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and beloved friend. She not only touched everyone she met with her sense of humor; persistently positive disposition; and calming, nurturing spirit, but was a shining example of the traditions and values, passed down to her, that have become the fabric of the family she so deeply loved: a devotion to family, a strong work ethic and selfless enthusiasm. She was loved by all for her wonderful heart which was evident to all who were honored to know her. She will be very much missed.
Jerry is survived by her husband, Paul R. Linger; a daughter, Serena R. Peterson; son-in-law, Kenneth Peterson; grandson, Dustin Peterson and wife, Nycole Peterson; and three great- grandchildren; Alexzander, Tyler and Robert Peterson, all of Buckhannon. She is also survived by siblings, Richard L. Bennett of Cocoa Fla., brother, Robert A. Bennett and his wife, Bobbie Bennett, of St. Cloud, Fla., and sister, Nancy Bennett and husband, James Bennett, of Merritt Island, Fla. She is also survived by nieces, Jenny (Bennett) Herring, Cathy Bennett, Cassie (Bennett) Ware and Cindy Bennett. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Serena Bennett; one brother, Carlis D. Bennett; and one sister, Sharon Sue Peterson.
A celebration of her life will be conducted July 28 at 5 p.m. at Mt. Hermon Methodist Church in Buckhannon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be donated to Mt. Hermon Church.
