Mary Louise Gum, 94, a resident of Route 4, Elkins, the Hazelwood Community, died at 10:35 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born March 5, 1919, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Paul Anthony Dean and Blanche M. Kesling Dean. On Nov. 2, 1935, in Elkins, she was married to Olan “Pete” Gum, who preceded her in death April 3, 1997.
Surviving are one son, Paul Joseph Gum and wife, Francine, of Stockton, Calif.; and one daughter, Mrs. Delmas (Mary Kay) Arbogast of Elkins. One granddaughter, Marianne Parra; two great-grandchildren, Louie and Nicholas Parra of Stockton, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Also preceding her in death was one sister, Anna Lucille Wegman.
Mrs. Gum was employed for several years at the Elks Country Club as custodian and waitress prior to her retirement. She loved gardening and flowers and spending time with her family and caregiver, Betty Arrington.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until noon Wednesday, July 24, at St. Brendan Catholic Church. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Wednesday from the church with the Very Rev. Donald X. Higgs, VF as the Presider. Interment will follow in St. Brendan Cemetery.
