Ruby Virginia Coontz, 94, a resident of Elkins, passed away at 2:50 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Keith Fincham of Elkins, where she had resided since 2001.
She was born April 14, 1919, in Pocahontas County, a daughter of the late Alva and Edna Bartlett Findley.
She was married to Ralph Q. Coontz, who preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 2004. Surviving are one son, Warren “Bump” Coontz and wife, Cindy, Huntsville, Ala., one daughter, Sharon L. Fincham and husband, Keith, of Elkins; two grandchildren, Brian Coontz and wife, Anna, and Lisa Boctor and husband, Alex; and two great-grandchildren, Brianna Coontz and Dylan Boctor.
Also preceding her in death are two brothers, Edgar and Ira Findley; and two sisters, Gertrude Simpson and Gladys Godwin. Mrs. Coontz attended the schools of Barbour County, was a homemaker and a member of the Valley Bend Baptist Church in Barbour County. The family would like to thank Mountain Hospice, especially Terri Lewis and Cindy Wiseman for their wonderful care and friendship the past several years of Ruby’s life.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Leon Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Valley Bend Baptist Cemetery in Barbour County.
