Sara Coontz

Mrs. Sara Margaret Beattie Coontz, 72, a former resident of Elkins and Belington, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 24, in Barbour County Good Samaritan Society at Belington. She had been in declining health for the past several months.

She was born Sept. 20, 1940, at Philippi, a daughter of the late William and Virginia Boyles Beattie.

On Jan. 14, 1959 she was united in marriage to William J. “Bill” Coontz, who preceded her in death Nov. 26, 2000.

She is survived by two sons, Tim Coontz and wife, Cindy, of Belington and Dr. Todd Coontz and wife, Dana, of Aiken, S.C.; two grandsons, Landon Coontz and Conner Coontz; three granddaughters, Cori Coontz, Amy Coontz and Ashley Coontz; and one great-grandson, Gunnar Coontz. She is also survived by one sister, Bobbie Brown and husband, Eddie, of Philippi; and one niece and two nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Jody R. Coontz.

Mrs. Coontz graduated from the Philippi High School with the class of 1958; she was a homemaker, a devout Christian and attended New Directions Church in Elkins.

Friends will be received from Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 28, and Monday from 8 until 11 a.m., the funeral hour when services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Dr. Todd Coontz officiating. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery at Grafton.
