Richard Lee Wolfe

Richard Lee “Dick” Wolfe, 82, of Canaan Valley, died Thursday Aug. 8, 2013 at Cortland Acres, Thomas. He was born in Clendenin, Jan. 3, 1931, the son of the late Alison R. and Iolene Thrash Wolfe. Richard is survived by his wife, Martha, whom he married Aug. 20, 1955. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he proudly served in the United States Air Force.

While a student at WVU, he became a brother of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and remained a lifelong fan of the Mountaineers. Upon graduation in 1956, Richard was employed by Consolidated Natural Gas Company in Clarksburg. After retiring in 1990 as the vice president of human resources, he relocated to Canaan Valley.

There he was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Davis. Richard served on several boards including United Hospital Center, Summit Center, United Way, Cortland Acres Association, Timberline Association and the Boys Scouts of America.

He was also a 50-year member of the Lions Club, and served as president of the Clarksburg and Thomas-Davis Clubs. Richard was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 40 and the Scottish Rite.

An avid golfer, he was a former member of the Clarksburg Country Club. Richard was preceded in death by a son, Richard II, and brothers, Rolly and Robert. Also surviving are a daughter Elizabeth (William) Fox, and five grandchildren, Alyssa Jayaram, Amanda Wolfe, Sarah Fox, Matthew Fox and Zachery Wolfe.
