Thelma M. Judy

Thelma Mattie Judy, 92, of Mill Creek and recently of Colonial Place in Elkins passed from this life on Aug. 11, 2013. She was born on Nov. 30, 1920, on the family farm near Dry Fork, a daughter of the late Clyde and Dexter Raines Hady.

On Sept. 14, 1940, she married Leon Judy who passed away on Nov. 19, 1992, after 52 years of marriage. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by an infant brother and sister, an infant son and her daughter-in-law, Carol Judy.

Surviving are three sons and daughter-in-laws: Don and Barbara Judy of Beverly, Joe and Becky Judy of Mill Creek, and Dick and Annette Judy of Beverly. Also surviving is one brother Fred and wife Arlene Hady of Southwest Ranches, Fla. and niece Pat Hady and nephew Jeff Hady, both of South Fla. Surviving grandchildren include: Joey, Charlie, Ritchie, and Eric Judy; Jeff, Scott, and Doug Cassell; Lori Burnside and Della Sayre. She is also survived by 15 great grandchildren and 6 great-great granddaughters. Mrs. Judy was a homemaker and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service having served 18 years in the Mill Creek Post Office. She enjoyed gardening and quilt making.

She was a volunteer at Tyrand Cooperative Ministries where she assisted in the completion of many quilting projects. She enjoyed teaching others the art of quilting. Thelma was a member of the Mill Creek United Methodist Church. The family expresses a sincere thanks to the staff of Colonial Place and Mountain Hospice for their care of our mother. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins and again from 10 a.m.-11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 14, the hour of the funeral service. Rev. Bonnie Starkey will officiate and interment will follow in the Hady Cemetery at the Lanesville Bethel Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tyrand Cooperative Ministries, P.O. Box 365, Mill Creek, W.Va. 26280 in memory of Mrs. Judy. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Thelma Mattie Judy. Condolences may be expressed to the family at
