Charles “William” Carr

Charles “William” Carr, 84, a resident of the Dry Fork Community, Elk, Hendricks, departed this life Friday afternoon, Oct. 4, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He had been in declining health.

He was born Monday, Sept. 23, 1929, in Elk, a son of the late Grace Allie Carr.

On Dec. 27, 1955, at Pine Grove, he was married to the former Roberta Frances Miller, who survives. They had celebrated 57 years and nine months of marriage.

Also surviving are two daughters, Anna Lynn Wilcher of Hendricks, and Bobbi Jean Martin of Elkview; one sister, Thelma “Louise” Poling of Perryopolis, Pa.; one sister-in-law, Edith Bonner of Elkins; five grandchildren, Lisa, Stephen, Lauren, Aliyah and Alexandria; and five great-grandchildren, Patrick, Matthew, Kerri and twins, Tyler and Logan.

Preceding him in death is one brother, Ernest Franklin Bonner Jr.

He attended the one-room Mill Run School. During his younger years, he worked on the farm and sawmill. He was a member of the Dry Fork Wildcats Softball Team during the late 1940s and 50s. He was a former pole climber for Penline Service and he retired from the Bethlehem Steel Mill at the Baltimore Sparrows Point Plant in February of 1992. Mr. Carr was an avid fisherman, enjoyed taking walks, gardening and he just loved everyone he came into contact with, and he never knew a stranger.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home parlor at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013. The Rev. J. Michael Lantz will officiate and interment will follow at the Bright Chapel Cemetery at Dry Fork.
