Doyle Griffith, 86, a resident of Meadowville Kirt Road, Montrose, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, in Hospice Regional Care Facility in Elkins.
He was born Dec. 20, 1926, in Boulder, a son of the late Arthur and Lona (Saffle) Griffith.
He was united in marriage Nov. 25, 1946 to Dorothy (Crites) Griffith for 67 years, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Barbara Alkire and husband, Ralph, of Philippi and Cheryl Butcher and husband, John, of Valley Furnace; three grandchildren, Michelle Mouser and husband, Thomas, of Valley Furnace, Melissa Higbee and husband, Chuck, of Princeton and Ethetta Butcher of Valley Furnace; three great-grandchildren, Samantha Dobbins of Beaufort, S.C., and Chloe and Briar Mouser of Valley Furnace; and two great-great-grandchildren, Evan and Alexis Rose Dobbins of Beaufort, S.C.
Mr. Griffith was preceded in death by two brothers, Junior and Elmer Griffith.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was the owner of Griffith Mobile Homes for 30 years, Griffith’s City Restaurant for 22 years and was a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church.
Mr. Griffith was an avid hunter and fisherman. After retirement, he enjoyed farming full time.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi today from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 25, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the service hour with the Rev. Tim Bleigh officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery with military honours being accorded.
