Mervin R. “Ray” Chaney Jr., 67, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born Sept. 11, 1946, at Mill Creek, a son of the late Mervin Ray Chaney and Edna Swecker Chaney.
He was married to Sharon Lambert Chaney, who survives at Mill Creek.
Also surviving are one son, Marcus Rice and wife, Robin Dallas, of Morgantown; one daughter, Angela Vance and husband, Ryan, of Morgantown; one brother, Dick Chaney of Mill Creek; and one sister, Kay Dunn and husband, Wayne, of Mineral Wells. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Emilee Poling and Logan Vance.
Also preceding him in death was one infant sister.
Ray was a 1964 graduate of Tygart Valley High School and was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War. He was employed by Alltell in Mill Creek and Waynesburg, Pa. He then returned to Randolph County where he served as director of Emergency Services for Randolph County until his recent retirement. He attended the Assembly of God Church, loved to golf, and he held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Sunday, Oct. 20, he will be moved to the Mill Creek United Methodist Church where friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. the funeral hour. Pastor Kevin Gainer will officiate, and interment will follow in the Mill Creek Cemetery. Presentation of the American flag will be made by the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program.
