Bernadine McCray, 98 of Ireland, the Wildcat community, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at her home.
She was born April 12, 1915 in Wildcat.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Welton Branch and Flora Forinash McCray; sisters, Merle McCray and Retta Beckman; and brothers, Lawrence, James Arris, Ralph and infant brother, David.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Lucille McCray of Ireland; nieces and nephews, Eletha “Lea” Smarr of Buckhannon, Leonard (Nola) McCray of Hacker Valley, Wanda (Carl) Greathouse of Salem, Vonda (Kenneth) Dye of Jane Lew, Yvonne McCray, Willa Radcliff, Jay Beckman, Joe (Beverly) Beckman and Diane (Friel) Boggs, all of Weston, Brenda (Harold) Helmick of Roanoke, Carol McCray and Darley McCray, both of Ireland, Martha Sue McCray of Dunmore and Harold (Naomi) McCray of Virginia; and several generations of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Bernadine was a lifelong member of Elijah Chapel United Methodist Church at Bablin, where she held many offices in the church and was a past teacher. In her earlier years, she worked for West Virginia Glass Co. in Weston, Homer Laughlin China Co. in Newell and was the postmistress at the Wildcat Post Office from 1960 to 1981. She will be sadly missed by her family of nieces and nephews and a host of friends
The family will receive friends from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Alkire Funeral Chapel in Ireland, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Dwayne Brown officiating. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery in Duffy.
