Mabel Fox

Mabel Marie Phillips Fox, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home in Mill Creek Friday, Nov. 8, 2013.

Mabel was born in Adolph, on March 22, 1928, the daughter of the late James and Hattie Pritt Phillips.

She graduated from Tygarts Valley High School in 1945.

Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; brothers, Paul Phillips, Don Phillips and Jack Phillips; and sisters, Wanda Phillips and Geneva

McGaughlin.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Nancy Sanders, Steve Fox, John Fox, Becky Sainato and Jamie Fox. Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Jill Currence, Stevie Fox, Doug Fox, Jessie Fox, Audrie Fox, Alexa Fox, Isabella Fox, Preston Fox, Hunter Sainato, Steve Sanders, Grant Sanders and Kelly Bertilacchi; great-grandchildren, Leah Rucker, Hailee Sanders and Micael Bertilachhi; and one brother, David Phillips.

Mabel was a loving and compassionate mother who devoted her life to her family and put the needs of others before her own. Her kindness extended beyond her family and touched the hearts of many. She was especially fond of the time with her grandchildren and proud of their many accomplishments. Mabel spent many hours driving around the countryside enjoying the scenery and reminiscing about her childhood growing up in Adolph. During those early years, she spent her time outdoors hunting or just enjoying nature. She also played on the basketball team at Tygarts Valley High School. In her later years, she played on a women’s senior league softball team.

Visitation for Mabel will be conducted from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tristan Tenney officiating. Interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery near Huttonsville.
