Walter N. “Buck” Depoy, 82, of the Alton community, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at his home.
He was born Sept. 6, 1931, in Upshur County, a son of the late Charles and Della Howes Depoy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Tressie Cunningham Depoy; two daughters, Diana and husband, Tim Shaw, of Buckhannon and Joyce and husband, Bill Hackett, of Green Springs, Ohio; one son, Walter K. Depoy and wife, Brenda, of Alton; seven grandchildren, Angela, Billy, Krista, Travis, Alex, Alicia and Zack; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Russell of Belvidere, Ill.; and one brother, Wesley Depoy of Simon’s Hill.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Vera and Virgie; and five brothers, Charles, Will, Clyde, John and Ralph.
Mr. Depoy was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War. He was a member of the French Creek Disabled American Veterans Chapter 36 and Beech Mountain Sportsmen’s Club. He loved to hunt, fish and garden.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Dec. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel. The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Robert F. Heavner officiating. Interment will follow in Indian Camp Cemetery where the Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
