Alma Douglas

Alma Douglas passed from this life at age 93 on Jan. 21, 2014. Alma, a life-long resident of Elkins, peacefully took her last breath at about 9:45 p.m. in Broaddus Hospital in Philippi, with her family by her side.

She was born May 7, 1920, in Elkins, daughter of the late Stella and Thomas Keller, also of Elkins.

Her husband, Paul Eugene Douglas; and sisters, Evelyn Clara Newell, Virginia Leah Turner and Winnie Katherine Keller, preceded Mrs. Douglas in death.

She is survived by her one son, Phillip B. Douglas and his wife, Patricia Kelly, of Williamsburg, Va.; two daughters, Sandra Kay Weaving and husband, William, of Downingtown, Pa., and Pamela Sue Douglas of Elkins and her fiance, Joe Isner; seven grandchildren, Kevin Douglas of Memphis, Tenn., Heather Dehn and husband, Joe, of Danvers, Ill., Kelly Anne Douglas and partner, Anthony Wiggins, of Williamsburg, Va., Kristen Farmer and husband, Brian, of Hoschton, Ga., James Paul Douglas and wife, Judy Kim of San Fransisco, Calif., Jonathan Weaving and wife, Jackie, of O’Fallon, Ill., and Allison Sheaffer and husband, Nate, of Dillsburg, Pa.; and 11 great-grandchildren, Carlin Lineberry, Brenin and Riley Douglas, Tyler, William and Wesley Farmer, Blake and Jeremy Dehn, Lincoln, Colten and Morgan Weaving; great-great-granddaughter, Malaia Skye Marshall; and a very special great-niece, Linda Wyatt and husband, Bob, of Akron, Ohio.

Alma graduated from Elkins High School with Paul in 1938. She was a homemaker all of her life. Mrs. Douglas spent thousands of hours volunteering at local schools, Davis Memorial Hospital Snack Bar and First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed making flower arrangements for friends and families to give to hospital patients. Everyone always eagerly anticipated the Hospital’s Snack Bar subs she made. Alma loved the First United Methodist Church of Elkins where she most often occupied a corner seat in the overflow section of the church. She would frequently arrive at church on Sunday a half hour early, just to ensure she and Paul had a seat in the same section surrounded by many good friends. The Rev. Basil Hensley once recognized Alma as the oldest church member who regularly attended church. In her spare time, Alma made quilts for each of her children and grandchildren.
